"The University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has introduced temperature controlled units in all our vehicles which are used to transport patients samples from surrounding GP surgeries, hospitals, health centres etc. to the pathology laboratories at Derriford Hospital. An important feature of these units are that they are capable of heating as well as cooling, this ensures that the integrity of each sample is not compromised by exposure to the temperature extremes of summer and winter and any temperature fluctuation in transit. This will increase accuracy of results and speed up patient diagnosis and treatment for those samples which would have previously been affected.
